Emborios – in Kalymnos

Emborios is a tranquil and quiet village located in the southern part of the Greek island of Kalymnos, in the Dodecanese archipelago. This village is the last one a tourist would find when arriving to Kalymnos by its port, and can be reached by following Kalamoti Road, near Komi and to the east of Armolia.

Despite of the fact that it is one of the smallest and less popular villages in this region of Greece, Emborios is very attractive and counts with a very rich historical past. According to experts, this village was already inhabited in the year 3000 BC. During that époque, Emborios was called Lefkonio, and was one of the most important trading centers of its region. Those tourists who are fond of disciplines such as archaeology and history could learn more about the past of this village and the archaeological discoveries that have taken place in it by visiting the Archaeological Museum of Chios.

Also, despite of its size and tranquility, Emborios has several restaurants, taverns and bars as well as some rooms and facilities which would ensure visitors to be able to stay and enjoy their vacation in it. This village is a great choice for all those tourists who wish to visit Kalymnos, meet its traditions and enjoy its beauty but at the same time avoid crowds.

It might be interesting to know that Emborios has one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, the beach of Mavra Volia. Mara Volia is at walking distance from the port of Emborios and offers soft sands and tranquil clear waters. But, due to its beauty, many of the visitors who are at other villages or towns in Kalymnos often approach to Mavra Volia and this can cause it to be crowded.

After a relaxing day at the beach, tourists can visit one of the several restaurants this village has and enjoy a traditional meal as well as meet the local every day life. Besides this, when going to a local restaurant or simply walking around and meeting the town, tourists could easily learn more about the village while interacting with its inhabitants who are said to be, most of the times, very friendly.
