Mt Parnassus is one of the most interesting and visited spots in central Greece. This mount can be found next to the city of Delphi, towards the northern area of the Gulf of Corinth, and one of its main and most attractive characteristics is given by the amazing landscapes it offers.
This destination has two important ski centers which attract visitors from many different points of the world in a constant basis. The main one of them, called the Parnassos Ski Centre, is the largest and most important ski centre in the entire Greece, and is divided in two different areas known as Kellaria and Fterolakka.
Mount Parnassus or Parnassos and its surroundings are strongly related to ancient Greek mythology, being this another of its main attractions. The name of this month, Parnassos, was given to it in honor to the son of nymph Kleodora and Kleopompous. It is told that Parnassos used to lead this area, along with some other mythical creatures.
According to the ancient Greek mythology, Apollo, the Dorians, the Muses, and the Corycian nymphs considered this mount to be sacred. The Oracle of Delphi was also situated near this mount, being a major extra reason for this town to be so related to ancient Greek mythology, since many myths and legends in all the country could be found to be in relation with this oracle.
Mount Parnassos is also widely known as a source of bauxite, an element which is crucial to the production of aluminum, and which therefore is very important for the region and the country. This way, this spot counts with a variety of important economical resources which allows it to be very prosperous and attractive to visitors.
One of the main spots tourists usually visit in Mt Parnassos is the town of Arachova. Arachova is a very attractive town, which allows tourists to enjoy some of the most amazing sights they could find in the entire region of Central Greece, and its ideal for a base place due to the facilities it offers and to the fact that it is close to the main ski center and other attractive places.
