Achaia and its history

The origins of the Greek prefecture known as Achaia can be traced back to the époque in which the Mycenaean centers lost their power and a group of Achaians became the first inhabitants of this destination. After the Achainas settled in what is nowadays called Achaia, this area gained several towns and cities, and, towards the year 285 BC slowly started becoming a spot with political and social weight.

The Mani and its interesting past

The Mani is one of the Greek destinations located towards the most far southern area of Peloponnese, south of Sparta. This city is unique and extremely interesting to all those visitors who like meeting and observing antique constructions due to the great amount of them it has. Visitors who are in the Peloponnese and like meeting spots rich in historical past and full of amazing ancient constructions should try to meet the Mani since it would have a lot to offer to them.

The charming town of Nafplio

Nafplio is a charming small town located in the Greek region of Peloponnese, within the prefecture of Argolid surrounded by some valleys and near to some beautiful coast lines. This town used to be considered one of the most important spots in Greece, until the lapse of time between the 6th and 11th centuries BC when it started loosing popularity once the Myceneans invaded it.

Isthmia and the Panhellenic games

Isthmia is a spot located very near to Corinth, next to the Isthmus of Corinth were the Peloponnese and mainland of Greece are connected to each other. This is been a strategic, crucial and important spot since ancient Greece for a variety of reasons, among which we can name the trading of products and the practice of sports.

The island of Elafonisi

Elafonisi is a beautiful small Greek island situated towards the south east area of Crete. This island is at a distance of about 76 kilometers from Chania and 43 kilometers from Kastelli, and tourists can easily go to Elafonisi from them by bus since there are several ones going to the island every day.

The Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal connects the Peloponnese with mainland Greece and the Sacronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth. This Canal was built during the 19th century, and since then, it has been a great help to connect and transport at both sides of the Corinth Isthmus. Before the canal existed, in ancient Greece, people would need to travel all around Peloponese in order to go from this spot to mainland Greece, a trip which would take them days.

Neapoli – an ancient administrative center

The town of Neapoli is the administrative center of the Greek municipality of Vatika, in the region of Peloponnese. By visiting Neapoli, tourists could also easily meet several other towns and villages located near this town, such as, for example, Paradisi, Lachi, Kambo, Cape Maleas, Elafonisios, Kythera, Antikythera, and Faraklo among others.

Mycenae – an amazing town on a hill

Mycenae is a Greek town situated between Argos and Corinth, in the region of Peloponnese. This town can be found on a hill, within the area of the Euboea Mountain, and tourists who travel from the Argolic Gulf to Corinth or Athens would be able to easily find it since it would be on their way.

Gytheio – the sea port of Sparta

The Greek town of Gytheio, often called the sea port of Sparta, is located towards the north western area of the Gulf of Laconia, in the Peloponnese. This is an ancient town which offers a variety of interesting spots to meet as well as many unique constructions and buildings dating from past époques.

Corinthia – a Greek prefecture

Corinthia is a Greek prefecture which belongs to the region of Peloponnese, in the metropolitan area of Athens. The capital of this prefecture is Corinth, and it counts with a population of around 160.000 inhabitants spread within an area of 2.290 square kilometers.
